my edited picture
I have taken two pictures and edited them using brightness and contrast, increasing the brightness and decreasing the contrast. These two images relate because there is shadows of plants on both.

moholy - nagy
Moholy nagy's photographs are mainly black and white. He mostly photographs buildings close up, looking up. The buildings leave a urban feel and mainly contain lots of windows showing
my response to looking up
To create this is I have changed the hue/saturation to make the colours different, I did this to make the sky stand out and to make the palm trees have a different effect.
formal elements
Focus: most of the images are in sharp focus.
Light: There is very strong sunlight which makes definite shapes across the photograph. The bands of sunlight slashes in bands where is comes through a slatted object out of shot. Repetition: The bands of light are repeated in a diagonal formation. Shape: There are straight man made shapes which cross the curve of the table. Space: It is quite a flat image with no foreground, middle or background. Despite this it still is dramatic. Texture: All of the objects are smooth. Value/Tone: Across the picture the tone or grey appears to get lighter and at the top half it is darker. |
keld helmer Peterson
Peterson has created highly contrasted, silhouettes. the effect of this is to make it seem cold, dark and industrial. this has inspired me to edit my urban photographs this way.
I have edited my photograph in the style of Peterson. This is the starting picture to the edited one.
These screen shots shows how I have edited the picture with brightness/contrast and the levels.
Michael wolf
Michael wolfs photography focuses on repetition. He's inspired by the urban landscapes of towns and cities. His main technique is to crop his photos creating patterns. Sometimes he catches human interaction and intends to catch the moment in everyday life.
These are my responses to Michael Wolf and how I did it.
pattern, shape and repetition - photoshoot 3
selected photographs from the photoshoot
During the photo-shoot I was inspired by Keld Helmer Peterson and Michael Wolf. I was focusing on patterns and strong lines. I tried to look for repeated patterns and zoomed in to crop the photograph avoiding distracting backgrounds. Also I was looking for different shapes and these 8 pictures I had taken were the most effective.
edited photo -
I firstly made the photograph black and white then changed the brightness and contrast to make the shapes and patterns stand out .I then cropped the photo to make the small square patterns become the dominant feature, I was also influenced by Micheal Wolf and his kind of work. These are my 4 final edits.
refining my ideas
best photographs
combining photos
I choose this image as there is a variety of shapes and lines.
|
This is my second image I choose this as it also follows lines, shape and the colour blue.
|
I selected the 2 images on Photoshop layered them changing the opacity to ghost both pictures.
|
I then made all the colours on both images bold by increasing the hue/saturation.
|
I then added my first image again, changing the opacity levels, rotating it 180 degrees and increasing the colour.
|
I choose this because it is very urban and the lines lead you into the photograph.
|
I choose this as my background picture due to it matching the urban theme and there being a lot of shapes.
|
I layered both images together making them to ghost giving a very urban feel.
|
To edit I changed brightness and contrast on only the layered image then changed used the level tool on both.
|
I then changed both images to black and white and went back in brightness/contrast making some places darker and bolder then others.
|
What I tried out
My favourite edited image is the one with cerise pink, I like this one the most as all the colours work well together and it changes the image. I also like how the colours are so bold and how it just cuts off to black and white, the patterns work well as they both contain line and shape.
To edit these pictures I was influenced by Peterson, these images show strong line and the silhouette.
These are my Final pieces.
